Driving by yourself or with your family can be an exciting experience. However, there are some things to consider before you hit the road on a long drive. The foremost thing among all is to have a sound 4WD recovery kit. For your safety, there are certain things you should never do, and not driving with the recovery kit for your 4WD is one of them.

Imagine you get stuck in the middle of nowhere, where nobody can come and rescue you. For such situations having all the available tools to make it out in time is important. Sometimes people get stuck in place for days without food and water just because they do not have the proper tools to revive their 4WD. It is also important to know the must-haves for your 4WD recovery kit. If you want to know about them, then read on further.

Long Handled Shovel

If you drive off-road, then getting stuck in a way is normal. It is because of all the dirt, sticks and leaves. There might come a time when you will have to come out of the car and dig out the debris under your tire to free your car. A long-handled shovel can come in handy in such situations.

Snatch Strap

4WD are heavy, and when driving in bog areas, you need to avoid some spots to keep them from getting stuck. In the worst-case scenario, if your vehicle gets bogged, you will need to pull it up. For that, you will need a snatch strap. Simply connect the strap from your vehicle to another one which will pull your car, and you are good to go.

UHF Radio

If everything fails and you can’t seem to get out of a place, then you need to have a UHF radio at your disposal. It will help scan the nearby talk stations so that you can contact them for help. If you do not have these items, you can buy 4WD recovery kits online.

Air Compressor

You need to have the correct air pressure in your tire to have a strong grip on the road. In bog areas, lowering the tire pressure can work.

Jack And Base Plate

Of course, you will need a jack to change tires, and it can be quite useful when you need to change one. However, the jack is not only useful in changing tires, but it can also come in handy when your tire gets stuck in a hole. You can just lift the tire and fill the hole with leaves and rock to make a smoother surface where the tire can sit without getting stuck.

Final Thought

So, this was everything you needed to know about the recovery kit and its must-haves. Always check your recovery kit before hitting the road and ensure all the items mentioned above are in it. If you even lack one item, buy it before going anywhere. Know that staying safe is the priority. Therefore, a little delay is fine when it’s a matter of your safety.
